With this new funding round, Edonia secures €15 million in financing, backed by SWEN Blue Ocean 2, Asterion Ventures and EIT Food, alongside non-dilutive funding, including support from Bpifrance and bank financing. We led its first round, €2M, in 2024. Its Series A brings outside validation to that bet.

A functional industrial pilot, clients delivered, €30M in pre-orders. And now, the means to scale: a dedicated facility in France, and growing sales of Edo®, Edonia's spirulina-based protein ingredient, in Europe, Japan and the United States.

The test few foodtechs pass

The alternative protein sector is emerging from a decade of unmet promises. The pattern is well known: a convincing prototype in the lab, then the wall of industrial scale, where supply and cost price decide everything. Most technologies stop there.

Edonia got past it. Its first round, in 2024, funded a functional industrial pilot. The company then moved from the lab to production, set up its own supply chain and fulfilled its first orders for its partners, including Newrest, an international group present in 50 countries, and Aliive.

Contracts followed: around twenty, signed with leading industry players, for €30M in pre-orders. All before the opening of the dedicated facility this round will fund.

"We've proven that a whole food protein can outperform the animal on nutrition and compete on price, at real volume, with real clients. This funding gives us the resources to turn our promise into verified proof," says Hugo Valentin, co-founder of Edonia.

Edonization®: spirulina changes state

The food market's expectations have shifted. Plant-based alternatives of recent years focused on mimicking meat in taste, look and texture. Consumers are now looking for products that are high in protein, affordable, minimally processed and tasty.

Edonia starts from a paradoxical raw material: spirulina, a microalgae packed with nutritional richness, mostly known as an unappetizing green powder. Its patented process, Edonization®, developed in partnership with AgroParisTech, turns it into a tender and tasty grain that food manufacturers and foodservice can easily work with.

Edo® stands out on four points:

€15M to scale up

The funds will be used to open a dedicated production facility, leveraging a trusted partner in an existing shared location in France, and to grow Edonia's B2B sales model with foodservice and food manufacturers in Europe, Japan and the United States.

A conviction that grows stronger

In 2024, we led Edonia's first round: €2M, complemented by Bpifrance. The bet was then on a team and a process whose industrial pilot was yet to be built.

Today, SWEN Blue Ocean 2 and EIT Food back this €15M financing alongside us, and Bpifrance is committing again, together with bank financing. This Series A gives our seed investment the validation that matters: that of other investors, putting their own capital on the same trajectory.

The evidence is on the table. The process holds up outside the lab, at real volume. And the team signed its pre-orders before having its facility.

Julie Peyrache, Investment Director at SWEN Blue Ocean 2: "Today, nutritious, tasty, inexpensive, good-for-the-planet food options are limited, and consumers are stuck needing to compromise on either the environment, health, or taste, depending on what they decide to choose as a protein source. That is why we are delighted to support Edonia, whose innovative microalgae-based ingredients meet all of these demands and could drastically improve the health and sustainability of our food supply."

Marine Reygrobellet, Partner at Asterion Ventures: "From the beginning, the Edonia team built a solid commercial pipeline even before the factory was up and running, a fact that speaks volumes about both the product's quality and the team's vision and sales capabilities. We are delighted to continue supporting Edonia in this next phase, alongside SWEN."

Congratulations to Hugo, Pierre, Nicolas and the whole Edonia team.
