A European-scale funding round
Companion.energy today announces a €7.8M seed round, co-led by Realyze Ventures (Germany) and Pi Labs (UK), with the support of Asterion Ventures (France) and the reinvestment of its existing backers.
Just two years after its €2.1M pre-seed, the Belgian platform has grown its customer base and annual recurring revenue tenfold, now exceeding €1.2M. It manages more than 2 TWh of energy consumption and production per year for its clients, representing roughly €500M in energy flows. Its portfolio of flexible assets exceeds 200 MW: batteries, solar, heat electrification and EV charging.
This round brings together complementary sector and geography-focused funds. Realyze Ventures contributes its corporate network across real estate, construction and energy in Germany. Pi Labs covers the UK proptech and climate tech ecosystem. Together, they map Companion's current markets: Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany and the UK.
France, the missing link
One key market remained absent from this round: France.
France is the second-largest European market for B2B energy optimisation. Companion already has natural prospects there: multi-site telecom operators, ports, utilities and large real estate owners. But opening these accounts from Ghent requires long sales cycles and qualified introductions. This is precisely the gap Asterion fills by joining the cap table.
Our role is defined from day one. We sit on the France project board to support the hiring of the first local commercial team and to accelerate penetration of large industrial and utility accounts. Our network of mid-cap companies, energy suppliers and major consumers is a differentiating asset for a company that must grow from 16 to 30 people and open three new countries at once.
A product that runs in the background
Companion does not sell another dashboard. It replaces Excel processes and quarterly meetings with an operational system.
The platform is built around two layers. Prism aggregates operational and financial data in real time into a single model, with 15-minute granularity. Propel, the control layer, sends optimisation signals to flexible assets every 15 minutes without ever touching industrial processes. The client's energy team defines the rules and constraints. The software executes.
This lack of organisational friction explains the commercial performance. The average sales cycle is 3.6 months. No client has churned since launch. NRR stands at 110%. Technical integration on existing SCADA systems has dropped from two weeks to a single day, an invisible barrier to entry for any newcomer.
Why we back Companion
Asterion joins this round with a clear conviction: our value goes beyond capital. We bring differentiated geographic coverage and corporate access in France.
Our sourcing remains primarily French at pre-seed and seed. We now want to be present in the most promising European companies as they structure their Series A or B. This is the stage where value creation plays out on scalable climate SaaS models. It is also the stage where our French corporate network becomes a lever of differentiation for European founders.
Companion is today the only pan-European, pan-asset player in a still-fragmented market. 80% of the product value is common across all European markets. This geographic scalability, combined with an execution moat on industrial integration, makes Companion a natural candidate for European leadership.
Next steps
The funds raised will serve three priorities. Accelerating commercial and customer success hiring to reach 30 people. Deepening the Propel layer on multi-asset, multi-market orchestration. And building local presence in France, Germany and Spain.
The goal: reach €5M ARR within 18 months, mainly through expansion of the installed base and deployment across the three key markets. Companion already has the customers, the product and the team to get there. The round it announces today gives it the geographic coverage it was missing.
Congratulations to the team
Congratulations to Thomas Vyncke, Jonas Verstraeten and the entire Companion.energy team. We are proud to support them in this new phase.
